The Garden–August 23, 2013

Image
The weather this year has been quite good for gardening. This is a general view of the flower bed. I planted it in a rather random fashion. I like this combination in a pot…shades of yellow and lime green…endless summer hydrangea in another pot, just peeking into the photo. Third year for this lily.. Ornamental cabbage coming along nicely.. One of my favorites, both in the garden , and for cutting; gloriosa daisy: Love the colour of this petunia!..

Green Gables Tea

Image
I have never visited our lovely Canadian province of PEI but if I did, I would want to visit Green Gables. When I was about 11, I read the “Anne” books, and imagined myself at the Lake of Shining Waters. etc. I thought I should set out my wedding china, Foley Devonshire, for our tea. The teapot is not matching, but the flowers are similar. Before we have our tea. let’s have a glass of Marilla’s famous raspberry cordial, non-alcoholic, of course! We’ll use the pretty cordial glasses I found at the thrift store recently. I always imagined lots of Queen Anne’s lace blooming on the island, and these placemats have a delicate border of what resembles that flower. I can identify with the following quote! “ Well, never mind. This day’s done and there’s a new one coming tomorrow, with no mistakes in it yet, as you used to say yourself. Just come downstairs and have your supper. You’ll see if a good cup of tea and those plum puffs I made today won’t hearten you up.” - Anne of Avonlea

Tuesday Tea- Blueberry

Image
It’s blueberry season! Those little bits of blue are healthy and oh-so-tasty! I made some blueberry crumble squares for our tea today. The little tea table is set beside the blue checked chair Although the Evesham china cup design is a plum, the colour looks just right. The cloth is actually a tea towel, purchased at a resort this summer. The tea we are drinking is Lemon Zinger, one of our favourites, and lemon goes well with blueberry, don’t you agree?
