The Garden–August 23, 2013

005-1

I haven’t joined in Tootsie’s flower flaunting Fridays this summer, so I decided that it’s better late than never, and summer is fleeting!

The weather this year has been quite good for gardening. This is a general view of the flower bed. I planted it in a rather random fashion.

002

I like this combination in a pot…shades of yellow and lime green…endless summer hydrangea in another pot, just peeking into the photo.

005

Third year for this lily..

Ornamental cabbage coming along nicely..

One of my favorites, both in the garden , and for cutting; gloriosa daisy:

Love the colour of this petunia!..

Now thanks to Tootsie, and let’s head over there to see what is new in some very special gardens.

Green Gables Tea

009-1Today Sandi  of Rose Chintz Cottage is hosting a Green Gables Tea. I have never visited our lovely Canadian province of PEI but if I did, I would want to visit Green Gables.
When I was about 11, I read the “Anne” books, and imagined myself at the Lake of Shining Waters. etc.
I thought I should set out my wedding china, Foley Devonshire, for our tea.
001-1
The teapot is not matching, but the flowers are similar.
Before we have our tea. let’s have a glass of Marilla’s famous raspberry cordial, non-alcoholic, of course! We’ll use the pretty cordial glasses I found at the thrift store recently.
004-1
I always imagined lots of Queen Anne’s lace blooming on the island, and these placemats have a delicate border of what resembles that flower.
007-1
I can identify with the following quote!
Well, never mind. This day’s done and there’s a new one coming tomorrow, with no mistakes in it yet, as you used to say yourself. Just come downstairs and have your supper. You’ll see if a good cup of tea and those plum puffs I made today won’t hearten you up.”
-Anne of Avonlea, by L.M. Montgomery

I made these little jam puffs using choux pastry shells, with a dab of jam and cream cheese.
005
For the table, I picked some flowers from our garden today.
002
It’s a lovely warm day here in Manitoba, and I hope you are enjoying tea on a lovely day, wherever you are.

Tuesday Tea- Blueberry

It’s blueberry season! Those little bits of blue are healthy and oh-so-tasty!
I made some blueberry crumble squares for our tea today.011
The little tea table is set beside the blue checked chair
009
Although the Evesham china cup design is a plum, the colour looks just right.
010

The cloth is actually a tea towel, purchased at a resort this summer.012
The tea we are drinking is Lemon Zinger, one of our favourites, and lemon goes well with blueberry, don’t you agree?
Let’s all go over to Sandi’s now, where you will see other lovely tea things.
