WREATHMAKER

? I am using my Evesham by Royal Worcester today. Many years ago,I started out with a few bowls my Mom brought back from a trip to England where they visited the factory, and had a few pieces shipped home. I fell in love with the pattern and bought a few items to start a tea set. My dear husband then gave me the plates, etc. for 8. Since then I have added many pieces. I baked a rustic plum tart, using the remaining pastry from apple pies I made a few days ago.    Coffee will go well with the plum dessert, so I brought out the coffee server.  The centerpiece is a vintage cornucopia I bought for my Mom in about 1960 at Red Wing, Mn. I filled it with faux foliage and flowers. I decorated the mantel with lights and ropes of leaves, as it is so gloomy and cloudy these days...I thought it would cheer things up a bit... I hope you are enjoying autumn wherever you are!

I am so thankful for our country..the freedom to worship, abundance of clean water, wide open spaces, and I could go on. I read a little statement last week which said that the things we often take for granted are the ones other people pray for. Here in Winnipeg, Canada, money is important! Why?...Because the Canadian Mint produces coins for more than 175 countries.This morning we headed over to the Mint for a special Canada Day celebration.  This cool spot is at the entryway.  Some of our coins...  It is time now to stop and have a cup of tea and a dessert .  We are drinking Red Rose Tea today...I think it is unique to Canada. It is my favorite Orange Pekoe. The china is Royal Worchester Chantilly Gold.  I made a layered dessert... Meanwhile out on the lawn our resident rabbit is looking quite lazy, stretched out on the grass in a most unusual pose. He lives under our deck and we notice that when we come out, he appears at a safe distan...

It’s snowing today…it’s not Spring in this neck of the woods! This calls for some good ole’ comfort food. I made some old fashioned cornbread . We will have it with Canadian maple syrup. Yummm! Our Denby mugs will do nicely, filled with plain tea or strong coffee. My husband received several from his sister as gifts. SANDI hosts a lovely tea time each week. Be sure to visit today.

The year was 1912...early spring....a young Mother with 4 little children is preparing to leave her home in Europe to meet her husband in Canada.....he had gone on a year earlier to begin breaking land and build a home on the homestead provided by the Canadian government in a place with a very foreign sounding name...Saskatchewan...her father-in-law was traveling with her, to help with the children... She planned to leave in March, in time for the spring thaw in her new country...she'd be able to plant a garden....she contacted an agent who arranged passages, and is told that a big new ship would be sailing in March, and there would be lots of parties on it's maiden voyage...she laughs at that idea...not too much partying to be done with 4 small kids!... However, the maiden departure of the ship was delayed...there was a collision of a White Star sister ship, the Olympic, with a Royal Navy cruiser Hawke, and workers were diverted to deal with those repairs...the new date for...

Just a quickly assembled tea...inspired by spring green flowers... It's all in a light green tray...easily portable... The china pattern is Foley Devonshire, and the teacup has the same floral pattern, and is marked EB. The little china accessory is a flower with a butterfly perched atop. It's time for tea, and for this occasion we 'll have a raspberry cream meringue. I found the shells at Costco, so it's an easy dessert, and quite pretty, I think. I am using my newest dishes, a peacock pattern... Edie Rose by Rachel Bilson for  Macy's. There was just something about these which attracted me... Sandi is hosting her Tea Time Tuesday , so you should visit...there is lots to see over there.

Every Tuesday, I visit Sandi for her Tea Time Tuesdays. Yesterday I made a rhubarb crisp for our dessert, and while waiting for it to bake, I whiled away some time on my computer. Checking out the postings which came up on my dashboard, I saw that Sandi had already posted. ...Hmmm! ...Rhubarb Crisp!...well I guess many of us are  using that this week...it's fully in season... And then, I saw something else which was so familiar...cranberry glass!... I used the inspiration copied her idea......  My crisp was a little on the juicy side...I guess the rhubarb and strawberries were extra juicy... It was oh-so-good with a little scoop of ice-cream.... I used a mixed bag of china: small soup bowls: Tudor Rose by Royal Stafford Cups and saucers: Foley Devonshire Cake plate in background: Coalport Cranberry glass: gift received many years ago, purchased at Eatons Cloth by April Cornell Double flowered tulips from my garden So thanks, Sandi, for the inspiration...
