Flaunting Flowers July 31

Image
Tootsie is hosting her weekly flower flaunting...so check out the beautiful blooms for this week at: http://tootsietime.blogspot.com/2009/07/fertiizer-friday-flaunt-your-flowers.html This week the cobea (cup and saucer) has started blooming, as well as dahlias. My garden tends to look a little unplanned, and sometimes the heights are not graduated. This is a wall planter which we purchased a few years ago at the Bombay store. This is a single"million bells" which is doing well.

Bringing Beauty Indoors

When flowers are blooming, I can't resist bringing in a bouquet for the dining room table, and let's face it, anywhere else I can inject a little colour. This week the lilies are blooming....

Thoughts of Titanic

Image
On our trip to Minneapolis we visited the Science Museum, which currently featues the Titanic artifacts and display. It was quite an emotional experience... I found myself teary at several points. We were each given a boarding pass representing one of the passengers, and at the end of the tour we could check the list of survivors to see if we lived or died. My Grandmother and 3 children came to Canada to join my Grandfather in April, 1912, and travelling on board the Titanic was one of the options she was given. I would guess that cost was what prohibited her, but there are other theories, such as a delay in departure of Titanic. In any case she came on another ship, but I have always been interested in that sad event.

Canada Day at the Fort

Image
From our National Anthem: "God Keep our Land Glorious and Free". That is my prayer also. Today to celebrate Canada Day a group of friends , about 22, went to Lower Fort Garry, an old Hudson Bay Co. fort. Later we had a barbecue at our house for 28 young at heart, patriotic folks. What fun! Some shots from around the grounds and governor's house... Love the detail on this soup tureen.
