Tea Time–Hudson’s Bay Co.

I have always been intrigued by the history of the Hudson's Bay Company in Canada. There are many accounts of the accomplishments, dangers, and the exploits of the men who made the company an important part of Canada. Today I gathered up some items which are connected with the “Bay”, for tea.

004-001 The background is some red “point blanket” wool. HBC point blankets are said to last for generations.

Part of the setting is my Grandmother's blue enamel sugar bowl. Sugar was a much needed staple of early years, along with tea.

How about boiling the water in a genuine cast iron kettle, mended many years ago? It may have been bought at a company store …I don’t know, but it certainly is a relic!

028-001

The table is covered with a faux fish net……and an old oar washed up on the shore of Lake Winnipeg. (Have you heard of our wonderful smoked Lake Winnipeg Goldeye?)

I didn’t say anything about the cup…(it’s just one from my cupboard) I am sure loose leaf tea would taste lovely in it….

027-001

It would have been fun to have had our tea time at Fort Gibraltar, a short distance from here,(even though it was a fierce competitor of HBC!)

I am looking forward to joining Sandi again today, for her weekly tea party. What a gracious  hostess she is!

Oh Millie, what fun to see and learn a little about your area.

I am going on the East Coast of the USA on up to Nova Scotia and St. John NB next month- our third year in a row - such beauty there.

Thank you so much for visiting me and for your sweet comments. It means a great deal to me.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Millie,

Your tea setting looks lovely with the faux fish net and old oar. Very rustic indeed! I bet that old kettle has a story (or two) to tell. Thank you for stopping to visit. Enjoy your week.

Hello Millie,
There were rumors that The Bay was going into our Zellers but now they are talking about Target coming in the new year.
What an interesting post! Love the sugar bowl and the faux fishnet laden table with the oar. Thank you so much for joining me for tea today and have a lovely week.

Blessings,
Sandi
The old Hudson Bay stores were a favorite of mine, the new Bay image is still pretty good with quality merchandise.
Wish I had bought one of the blankets so long ago.

Your tea time sounds lovely and interesting. I am also very fascinated with anything Hudson's Bay. I love Lower Fort Gary for that reason.
Have a good week.
